Isuthu Institute

In Detroit, Reverend Wendell Anthony is a well-known community leader who works to eliminate racial inequality and promote civil rights within the community.

Reverend Anthony became the pastor of Fellowship Chapel Church in 1986. Under his leadership, the church has experienced its greatest growth in its 44-year history. In addition to its full-time ministry, the church also offers courses ranging from computer programming to SAT and ACT prep classes.

Reverend Anthony is also the founder of the Isuthu Institute (Coming into Manhood Program) and its female counterpart, the Intonjane Institute. Both programs help mentor and mold children ages 6 through 18.

Over the last four decades, Reverend Anthony has demonstrated outstanding leadership and involvement with the citizens and youth of Detroit. In addition to serving as the president of the Detroit branch of the NAACP, he is a current member of several boards and councils in Detroit and also leads a group each year on a special pilgrimage to Africa. These efforts have not only resulted in stronger ties between Detroit and Africa, but have also led to the establishment of a health clinic in Ghana.
