Registration is Being Accepted for 28th Annual Women's Leadership Symposium

WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Registration is now open for the Sea Services Leadership Association's (SSLA) 28th annual Joint Women's Leadership Symposium (JWLS) which is scheduled to be held in San Diego, June 11-12.

This year's symposium theme is "Progress and Possibilities: Embrace our Future Now!" which will focus on opportunities for women in the military while exploring options for the future.

The Navy will sponsor 400 San Diego based Sailors. All Navy-funded registrations will be coordinated through the Navy Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and Women's Policy (OPNAV N134W). While all service members are eligible, ideal candidates for the symposium include outstanding officers and enlisted, men and women, who are at a career decision point.

Each year, SSLA hosts a Joint Women's Leadership Symposium that brings together service members, decision makers, policy influencers and thought leaders to address global challenges to encourage and strengthen the leadership development within the services - we boast the largest gathering worldwide of service women in the U.S.

Leading By Legacy Leadership Training

U.S. 3rd Fleet Host Executive Leadership Training Symposium

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet Vice Adm. Kenny Floyd hosted an Executive Leadership Training Symposium (ELTS) at U.S. 3rd Fleet Headquarters in Point Loma April 28-29.

The annual symposium allows commanders and command master chiefs from around U.S. 3rd Fleet to gather and discuss ways to improve mission readiness in open-forum discussions.

Floyd and U.S. 3rd Fleet Fleet Master Chief Loran Bather met with the fleet's senior leaders to share knowledge and personal insights into fleet priorities, including training and readiness.

"ELTS was beneficial because it enabled us to bring together senior leaders and subject matter experts for open dialogue in a face to face setting and dig into our warfighting readiness," said Floyd.

ELTS participants discussed topics relevant to the CNO's tenets of warfighting first, operating forward and being ready. Other topics included the importance of executive leadership for Navy family life, mentorship, ethics and standards.

"It's important for all senior leaders to be aligned," said Bather. "ELTS allows 3rd Fleet senior leaders to meet with their boss and discuss issues that are affecting Sailors. It's also an opportunity for the 3rd Fleet commander to hear about practices and policies that are relevant and matter now to the fleet."

Floyd encouraged attendees to voice their concerns as well as share potential solutions and lessons learned from previous experiences.

"It provided us a venue to invest time in a dedicated study of emerging maritime security challenges and examine innovative solutions to ensure our ability to maintain maritime dominance," said Floyd.

ELTS attendees included commanders, command master chiefs and senior enlisted leaders from carrier strike groups 1, 3, 9, 11 and 15, Expeditionary Strike Group 3, Task Force 34, Commander, Navy Region Hawaii Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command and Navy Air Missile Defense Command.

U.S. 3rd Fleet leads naval forces in the Eastern Pacific from the West Coast of North America to the international date line and provides the realistic relevant training necessary for an effective global navy.
