3/13/2014 - Joint Base Charleston, S.C -- Leadership
from the 628th Air Base Wing visited the Joint Base Charleston - Air
Base Official Mail Center, March 7, 2014, as part of a program designed
to give base leaders a taste of what Airmen and Sailors do at their job
centers every day.
During the visit, Col. Jeffery DeVore, Joint Base Charleston commander ,
Chief Master Sgt. Mark Bronson, 628th Air Base Wing command chief and
Master Chief Petty Officer Joseph Gardner, Naval Support Activity
command master chief, were introduced to the mail room staff, briefed on
day-to-day operations and then assisted the mailroom staff with their
jobs.
"It was an opportunity for senior leadership to visit with the Airmen,
Sailors and civilians on a day in and day out basis to see what they're
doing and what they're going through, so we have a better appreciation
of what they do and how we can support them," said DeVore.
Airman 1st Class Jennie Short, 628th Communications Squadron mail
operator, showed JB Charleston's most senior Airmen and Sailor how to
sort the mail, go through the delivery and pick-up process, and how to
put the mail through various machines so postage can be put on the
packages before they can be sent out.
"I'm blown away by this whole experience," said Short. "They
(leadership) are very enjoyable to be around and have great
personalities which made the day fun. It was wonderful to have somebody
show they care and show that they genuinely wanted to learn and
understand, not only my job or what happens at my job, but what I do for
the commanders their jobs."
Once a month, leadership will go to a different organization, on either
the Air Base or Weapons Station and spend time with the Airmen, Sailors
and civilians to get a better appreciation on how their jobs impact the
mission.
